Low Carb Christmas Diets

It's the Christmas season, which means the temptation for sweets and other high carb foods is everywhere. Here we have advice on surviving low carb Christmas diets.

The Best Kind of Low Carb Diet for the Holidays

Not all low carb diets are bad. Just the ones that limit your carb intake to 20-60 grams of carbs a day. Granted, those are the most common types of low carb diets, but if you have been following the advice on this site, you haven't gone below 130 grams of carbs a day. Oh--you didn't read that page yet? Allow us to enlighten you.

You see, the reason carbs get a bad rap is because most of us eat way too many of them. This results in weight gain, so the answer (according to most low carb diets) is to cut out almost all carbs. The problem with that is that our bodies need 130 grams of carbs a day to work right. Since our bodies use 130 grams of carbs a day, if you limit yourself to 130 grams a day from what you eat now you will see a significant weight loss because most of us eat about 250 grams of carbs a day without even knowing it. It won't happen as fast as it would if you went on a strict low carb diet, but at least you won't be giving up carbs entirely. And when you do eat more than 130 grams a day once in a blue moon, the consequences won't be so catastrophic. (On a strict low carb diet, one day of eating carbs could mean a five pound weight gain!) In addition, switch to good carbs instead of bad.

All that being said, it's a little too late to change your diet now. But low carb Christmas diets don't have to be so bad. There are low carb versions of nearly every holiday recipe online, so you can have turkey, ham, deviled eggs, fake potatoes, stuffing, nuts, cheeses--even desserts!

Blowing low carb Christmas diets comes with a price, but three or four days after the fact, you can be right back in your blissful state of ketosis. To speed it up, try exercising. Any kind of diets--calorie counting, low fat diets, low carb Christmas diets--can benefit from exercise. Don't slack off just because it's a holiday! On the other hand, now is a good time to start exercising. It kicks low carb Christmas diets into high gear and helps you at least maintain your good work so far.
