You're considering a low carb diet, but you're on the fence. Lately, low carb diets have received a lot of bad press. Besides, what kind of diet tells you that fruit and vegetables are bad? Before you decide to go on a low carb diet, try complex carbohydrates instead.

Try a Diet of Complex Carbohydrates

When people start low carb diets, they're often surprised to learn the carb counts of many foods. They're also often surprised to learn that more foods have carbs than they thought. You probably don't even know how many grams of carbs you eat a day. Our bodies need 130 grams of carbs a day. Anything more than that can cause weight gain unless you're active. So the first thing you should do before starting any kind of low carb diet is to count the amount of carbs you currently eat each day. Do this for a week, and you can get a pretty good idea of the average amount of carbs you eat. We bet it's 250 or more. To do this, throw out all your white bread, chips, crackers, regular pasta, white rice and any sugary snacks or foods, then replace them with whole wheat or whole grain bread, whole wheat pasta, brown or long grain rice, oats, fruits and vegetables. If you read the labels on these foods (the ones that have labels) they aren't much less. So, you're wondering how these complex carbohydrates are going to help you. Here's how it works: Complex carbohydrates are made up of hundreds or thousands of sugar molecules that are linked together to form one big chain of sugars. Simple carbs are just the opposite. They are made up of only two or three sugar molecules to form one chain. It's like the difference between a tug-of-war rope and a thread. Which is easier to break? The thread, of course! Complex carbohydrates are harder for the body to break down than simple carbohydrates, so you feel full longer, and thus, EAT LESS! And THAT, my friend, is how you will lose weight on the complex carb diet.
