Eating Bad Carbs

When it comes to eating healthy, you have to know how to do so in order to build an effective diet. There has been a big debate over whether or not carbs should be cut completely out of a person's diet. Some say yes, some say no. But it has been a debate that has been going on for at least a decade. Everything can be bad for you if you have too much; the same goes for carbs. Now nutritionists say that carbs are divided into two groups: good carbs (complex carbs) and bad carbs (simple carbs). But just because they are termed as such, each type of carb can be good or bad at some point or another.

Bad carbs -- or simple carbs -- are carbs that break down easily and quickly. These are the carbs you eat after a workout to help build back up muscle. You should eat bad carbs in moderation. They don't have that much nutritional value and should not be made into a whole meals. Eating too many of these bad carbs can also cause weight gain. Most people use bad carbs as an energy booster, especially athletes. In this manner, these carbs can be good.

Good carbs -- or complex carbs -- are carbs that take a while to break down. Why is this a good thing? Because that way you feel fuller longer. You usually want to eat good carbs in the morning for breakfast before leaving the house. This way it will tide you over until you get your first break. Most people don't eat breakfast in the morning, or they only have something like orange juice or coffee before leaving the house, leaving them hungry before they even start their day properly. When that happens, you try to compensate by eating a larger meal at lunch and an even larger dinner. This is what leads to bad eating habits and weight gain. And this manner, they can be considered bad carbs.
